The Media is The Enemy of the State

I want to introduce Ron Paul.  At least some of you reading this blog have never heard of Ron Paul.  He has won one Republican straw poll and placed second in the other two.  He clearly won the first Republican debate in Ames, Iowa on August 11, 2011.  Dr. Paul is the only person who can get us back on track.  Yet, the media isn't covering him.  He is a 10 term congressman from Texas.  He doesn't waiver from his ideals.  He is a true Constitutional Scholar.  He fights Homeland Security, the TSA, FEMA, and The National Reserve.  He champions our rights.  He champions the Constitution, and he champions the rule of law.  I know that Dr. Paul is just what America needs right now.  I might be a social liberal, a pro-choice feminist, and an atheist, but I can look past Dr. Paul's views on abortion and conservative family views because sometimes you just have to compromise on the small stuff to fix the big stuff.  George Washington and Thomas Jefferson both wanted to abolish slavery.  Both recognized that they could not tackle slavery and hold the nation together.  We are at the same crossroads.  I want to put the country back on track, where we were before 9/11.  I want to restore the Constitution.  I want to restore real liberty.  I want America to prosper again.  So does Dr. Paul, and he has vowed to be the repeal president.  He has vowed to bring our troops home and end expensive, frivolous wars. He has vowed to stay out of conflict that doesn't directly threaten or affect us.   He wants to get rid of the IRS and keep the TSA's eyes and hands off of our bodies.  He wants what I want.  He wants the insanity to stop.

On August 11, 2011 the first Republican debate took place in Iowa.  I listened to it playing in the living room as I sat at my kitchen table.  I was pleasantly surprised by the raucous applause every time Ron Paul spoke. Not one other candidate got half the audience support of the 10 term congressman from Texas.  Paul was the only standout of the group.  He doesn't talk in rhetoric and talking points.  He's a Constitutional expert, a veteran of the Air Force and the Air Guard, and a physician.  He's studied in history and he's a champion of the people, not of big business.  It seemed, to me, like people were finally taking notice.  It wasn't until the next day that I realized that the person I view as America's only hope is viewed as a threat by the major media in the United States.

Fox News (Fair?  Balanced?) ran a poll on their website to see who their viewers believed won the debate.   Dr. Paul received 68% of the votes on the website.  Then the poll was pulled and a new poll was put up.  The second poll had almost the same results.  The results were to be discussed on Sean Hannity's show.  However, the poll was shut down, and the results were announced as "no clear winner" when Paul was leading by almost 4,000 votes over Gingrich, the number two player.  They even showed a map with colors representing each participant's votes.  Well over half of the map was green, Ron Paul's assigned color.  The rest of the map was comprised of a smattering of the other participants.  You can only find that map on the blogs of people who recorded it before it disappeared.

On August 17th there was a straw poll in Ames, Iowa.  Dr. Paul came in a really close second, but...

The morning following the Ames poll, I was listening to Morning Joe on MSNBC. I found it curious that they mentioned Michelle Bachmann, ad nausium.  They talked about Pawlenty pulling out of the race.  They mentioned Rick Perry getting into the race.  They talked about Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum.  They even mentioned John Huntsman who only got 69 votes.  Never once, however, did they mention Ron Paul.  They showed the stats, which clearly showed Dr. Paul being just barely edged out by Bachmann.  Yet, the commentary skipped from the winner to the third and fourth place shows.  Was it just MSNBC?  Nope, Fox was doing the same.

Ron Paul came in a very very close second in the Ames, Iowa Straw Poll.  Michelle Bachmann beat him by half a percentage point.  She won 4823 votes.  She bought 4000 votes.  Ron Paul bought none of his votes, but earned 4671 votes.  The poll results caused Tim Pawlenty, governor of Minnesota, to drop out of the race.  He was a very distant third, getting about half of what either Paul or Bachmann did.  Yet, Fox News, MSNBC, CNN and almost all major media outlets are pretending he doesn't exist.

Dr. Paul is not a crackpot as the media would have you believe.  His followers are not crazies or biggots.  They are just people who want to take their government back from the banks, oill companies and U.S. Military complex, the same military industrial complex that President Eisenhower warned us about. It didn't take long for this warning to come to fruition.  It just may have claimed the life of  his predecessor.
